PEX Repipes

PEX pipe, or cross-linked polyethylene tubing, is a type of flexible plastic tubing used primarily in building plumbing and heating systems. PEX has become a popular alternative to copper and PVC pipes.

PEX-A is one of the three main types of cross-linked polyethylene (PEX) tubing, distinguished by its manufacturing process and material properties. The PEX-A manufacturing process, known as the Engel method or peroxide cross-linking, involves cross-linking the polyethylene molecules through the use of organic peroxides during the extrusion

process. This method results in a highly flexible, durable tubing with key features such as :

  • PEX can bend to fit around corners, reducing the need for fittings and the risk of leaks

  • PEX can handle high temperatures, making it suitable for hot water lines.

  • It is generally cheaper and quicker to install than copper or steel plumbing, due to fewer connections and fittings needed and the ability to use longer lengths of pipe.
